In response to the criticism of his latest movie Dream Girl 2 being regressive, Ayushmann Khurrana has defended it by saying that it caters to the same audience as Gadar 2 starring Sunny Deol, where logic cannot be applied while watching it.
In an interview with a leading news portal, Ayushmann made it clear that Dream Girl 2 is not meant for individuals who are always prepared with a magnifying glass. According to him, this movie is intended for the audience of single-screen theatres in small towns who enjoy commercial, humorous films.
He said, "Jo Gadar 2 ki audience hai, wohi iski audience hai. Aap logic nahi laga sakte isme. There's a crazy suspension of disbelief in the film."
According to him, discussing the complexities of the movie is not possible since it does not have a specific message, but it is comprehensive. He mentioned that the film has a subtle nod towards LGBTQ representation, and there is a moment of acknowledgement when Abhishek Banerjee's character declares, 'Love is love' towards the conclusion.
Dream Girl 2 is a sequel to the 2019 hit film Dream Girl, which also starred Nushrratt Bharuccha. Aside from Ayushmann Khurrana, the sequel also stars Ananya Pandey, Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor, Vijay Raaz, Abhishek Banerjee and others. It was directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and released on August 25.
