Winters chill comes only at December-end in Ahmedabad

First days of December are usually among the warmest in city for this time of yr: MET Dept

With temperatures dipping, Amdavadis may have brought their woollens out of the closet. Even as the rest of the city wonders if the worst is yet to come, you will be surprised to know that the city is nowhere near breaking any record as far as fall in temperature is concerned.

For except for 2002, the month of December has seen a drastic drop in temperature only towards the end of the month. In fact, going by the meteorological department’s records, the initial days of December have seen the city recording the highest maximum temperatures for this time of the year.

That could perhaps explain why days continue to be hot even as the weather cools down in the evening. On Monday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 31.4 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature was 14.8 degree Celsius.

Nalia continued to be the coldest place in the state recording a minimum temperature of 9.6 degree Celsius, while Vadodara and Mahuva recorded the highest temperature of 33 degree Celsius.
It should be noted that in the year 2011, the lowest temperature recorded in the city was 9.2 degree Celsius on December 27.

“It gets chilly in the evening but I don’t think it feels like winter particularly during the day. More than the cold, it is the smog that is turning out to be an irritant,” said Reshmi Vijayan, a student.

Doctors in the city also said that the weather changes have had an effect on the health of people, particularly those suffering from allergic bronchitis. “This type of weather can have an adverse impact on patients of allergic bronchitis. Such patients are very sensitive to weather changes and the dry weather only adds to the woes,” said Dr Pragnesh Vachharajani.

According to the Met department, the minimum temperature on Monday is likely to be around 17 degree Celsius.

Woollen clothes came out in city as nights seemed to be getting colder but Met dept says temperature is normal for this time of year.
